The ink on my Babson diploma hadn't even dried, yet I found myself in my second legal battle in less than 2 years. This time, it was IATAN- an extension of IATA- who viewed us as a competitive threat rather than a partner. IATAN claimed we infringed on their turf by "making their logo work" for us. Okay, we added the logo on a few of our custom IDs. And Yes, the ID enabled standby flights for $25. And yes, the ID looked better than their own. I was speaking to Babson swim coach Rick Echlov about the teams next trip. As Coach Echlov said "Aloha! We've decided to go with you guys" Federal Marshalls with a lawsuit filed by IATAN in hand claiming trademark infringement. Ironically, I've never been sued over AD75 or other fare savings tactics. Then again, if Joe Roberts knew "he was sitting next to Bob Crandall" he would have kept his mouth shut. If you don't know who Bob Crandall is, GOOGLE IT!. For me, it was a KABOOM II moment.
